Who Are We?
This is a question that can be answered in many different
ways. The simplest answer is that
we are a group of Christians who gather at the corner of East Little Creek Rd.
and Nancy Drive in Norfolk, VA for worship, prayer, education, encouragement,
support, fellowship and outreach. We have adopted the mission statement of
“Worshiping Joyfully. Reaching Out
Together. Growing in Christ.” We believe these three short statements
encapsulate who we are called to be and what we are called to do.

Worshipin
We placed this statement first intentionally. Everything we do, everything we hope to do must flow out of our worship of God. The ability to gather, praise, proclaim, pray and sing our worship is indeed our greatest joy. Worshiping joyfully doesn’t mean we simply tell people to put their happy faces on when they walk through the door on Sunday morning. We regularly acknowledge both the joys and struggles faithful people face. It does, however, mean we acknowledge God’s presence, power and persistence in all of life’s circumstances, which in turn is a cause for joy.

Reaching Out Together
This statement reminds us that our Christian lives cannot be contained within Calvin’s walls. Jesus is the savior of the world, and so we must live out our faith in a way that reaches toward the creation God so dearly loves. Second, reaching out in Christian love is something done with the support of others. It is something we do together. We seek, and ask God to form us into a people united in Christ toward a common mission.

Growing In Christ
We are a community hungry for growth. We have a desire to grow in our knowledge of the Bible, our history, and what it means to be a Christian in our time and place. We challenge ourselves to be a friendly church, where others can easily join and grow. "Growing in Christ" is placed last intentionally because we believe growth will flow out of the first two statements. We are a congregation who prays for the Holy Spirit to stretch and teach us. We believe growth in knowledge, spirit and number will be a natural result of joyful worship and effective outreach.

Christians Connected Beyond the Walls of Calvin
In addition to who we are as Calvin Presbyterian Church, (The people who gather at 2901 E. Little Creek Road) we are also connected to Christians around the country through the Presbyterian Church (USA). The PC(USA) is the largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States, with a history that stretches back to the very foundations of our country. Regionally we participate in common mission with churches in our presbytery, the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia. On a national level we are connected to the General Assembly of the PC(USA).
